Reading

Welcome to the Reading Page

Yankee Dispatch -- Yankee Dispatch is an extra curricular club where students have the opportunity to share their writing talents.  We meet throughout the year to compose and assemble the school newspaper.

Book Club -- Book Club is open to any student in 5th through 8th grades.  We meet the first Thursday of most months in Mrs. Schulte's room 7:15 until the start of school.  Activities always include a light breakfast, discussion of what was read for the month, and setting goals for the upcoming month.

Because of the wide age range, students select books individually instead of in groups.  Discussion centers around these individual books.

Student Selection

Students in K-8th grades are selected for reading intervention based on teacher referral, AIMSWEB test scores,  and PARCC/ISAT scores

Class Activities

The 4 key reading strategies CLARIFY, PREDICT, QUESTION, SUMMARIZE are practiced through a variety of short texts.  These include both fiction and nonfiction.
