We have been investigating programs for the before and after school services we offer, currently a district run Latch Key. The YMCA is currently running before and after school programming, their "Y-Club" and they are expanding into more schools. We are in the process of having them in our district next year.
This is a great opportunity for our students and families! The Y offers a structured schedule of activities for our students which includes Homework help, Arts, STEAM Activities, Leadership Development, and Service Learning, just to name a few. Their staff are all certified and trained to work with our students. Training includes CPR, mandated reporting, behavior management, and activity planning, with all staff getting a minimum of 12 hours of training per year. To ensure quality programming, the Y maintains a 16:1 ratio (or less). The Y-Club also accepts the state subsidy and offer financial assistance we cannot provide as a district.
